The next Nobody's Perfect series of FREE parenting groups will be held in the Spring of 2012. Meet with other parents of young children (birth to age 5), share questions, learn about child development, and work together with the support of two trained facilitators to discover positive ways of parenting. A healthy lunch & childcare are provided free and space is limited, so call early to ensure your spot !
Reaching_Out is a powerful presentation currently being offered ito middle and high-school students within the region. This leading-edge classroom education and professional development tool will help break the silence that surround suicide and help teach youth how to recognize the warning signs of suicide. This workshop has been presented to over 900 local students in the last two years and the facilitators are now booking for 2011. A NEW DROP-IN GROUP has begun again at our NEWEST service location. The weekly Women's Drop-in will be held each TUESDAY from 1-3pm in the little house at 352 Rossland Ave (beside Star Grocery). All women & children welcome. There will be coffee, snacks, good conversation and clothing swap.
The popular CORE program has a new name and has a few spaces left for the 2011-2012 session! Now called "Bright Beginnings" this is a fantastic FREE preschool\parent education program for both the parents and children. Groups are held in the former Trail Middle School building, approximately following the school year calendar. Families may enrol in either the 9-11am or 1-3pm groups on Wednesdays, and pre-registration is essential. Call for more info or to register.
The CCRR has some exciting workshops and training scheduled. All workshops are FREE, and will be held at the FAIR Main Office, unless otherwise noted. Call the CCRR for more info. These workshops fill up fast, so you MUST pre-register with the CCRR at least one week prior.
The CCRR Playgroup is FREE, fun, friendly drop-in play and socialization opportunity for all parents, caregivers and children. Age appropriate toys, activities, and snack are provided. Playgroup will run most Monday mornings from 9:30 to 11am in the former Trail Middle School, approximately following the school year. Groups begin again on Mon, Sept 20. No pre-registration is required.
The CCRR is thrilled to be collaborating with School District #20 in offering the Strong Start Program at Fruitvale Elementary School. The program offers a free drop-in program for parents or caregivers and their children under 5. Qualified early childhood educator staff from the CCRR lead literacy activities, including stories, music and crafts to help children grow linguistically, physically and socially, and become comfortable in a school-like environment. This program runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9am to noon, and Wednesdays 11:30am to 2:30pm, during the school year (except standard School holidays). Groups begin again on Thurs, Sept 9. The WINS Transition House is offering to present the "In Her Shoes" workshop to interested groups. This 2-hour interactive, educational workshop will help participants understand, in a very compressed period of time, something of the experience of an abused woman and of how our response might support or hinder her efforts to be safe. Suitable for professional organizations, students, service clubs...just about anyone. Call the Transition House for more info.
The Crisis Line is taking names for an interest list for their next 3 day Crisis Line training to be held soon. This valuable training is offered 2-3 times per year to those interested in volunteering on the Kootenay Boundary Regional Crisis & Information Line, and also may be available to the general public as space permits. Building Beautiful Babies (Pregnancy Outreach) Groups are held in the former Trail Middle School building from 10am to 2pm on most Thursdays during the school year. Use the front door & take the hallway on the left to the very end to room 213. These groups are drop-in, so no registration is necessary. Pregnant women, new mothers and their families are welcome. Groups will not run on standard school holidays, and will meet at Gyro Park (near the gazebo) during the summer months. The upcoming schedule (subject to last-minute changes) is: Nov 17: open group
