| Description: | Coordinated by the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL), adult literacy programs are coordinated by Liz Gillis and offered in various locations in the Arrow and Slocan Lakes area. Programs currently include: - Adult Volunteer Tutoring Program: One-on-one and small group instruction for adults wishing to improve their reading, writing, math and computer literacy skills.
- English as a Second Language (ESL) Small Group and Volunteer Tutoring Program: One-on-one and small group instruction for adults wishing to improve their ESL speaking and literacy skills.
- Nakusp and Area Community Access Program (CAP): Free computer and internet access for adults and children; one-on-one and small group computer literacy instruction. (See separate entry for more details).
- Nakusp Community Radio Community radio station located at the CAP site. Volunteers program content for the radio station.
- Transitional Training Program: Small group transitional training for adults with disabilities.
- Women's Writing group A weekly writing program for women. Includes journaling and poetry as a tool for life, and a book discussion group. Improves writing skills and is an invaluable aid in self-discovery and learning to cope with problems.
- Women of Wonder (WOW) group: A program for women in New Denver. The group meets face-to-face weekly and will soon be set up to meet virtually with each other and with other on-line support groups. Computers and internet connections provided.
